On May 14, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (EEST), a virtual Clarin Café event will take place, focusing on the nuances of communicating with research funders, titled “CLARIN Café – How to Talk to Your Funder: A Funder’s Perspective”.
Participants will gain valuable knowledge on how to craft strong, compelling proposals for securing funding for research infrastructure — turning good ideas into well-supported projects.
Alice Dijkstra, a senior programme officer at the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO), will share key insights from a funder’s perspective. She will highlight best practices—what to do and what to avoid—when aiming to secure sustainable funding for research initiatives.
Target Audience
This event is open to all researchers who are planning to submit funding proposals to their national research councils or ministries.
Event Programme
Alice Dijkstra will deliver a two-part presentation, each followed by interactive discussions. Her talk will cover:
- – Personal insights from previous projects and programmes—primarily in the field of language technologies—along with practical tips on preparing successful funding proposals.
- – Advice on engaging with policymakers: understanding how they think, recognizing their challenges, and learning how to convey your message to decision-makers effectively.
Clarin Café is a collaborative and engaging space for discussion, where researchers, lecturers, students, and experts come together to exchange knowledge and experiences. For more information about this event, click here.
