CLARIN is an international Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure dedicated to language technologies in the social sciences and humanities, fostering research, advanced language innovation, development, and implementation. CLARIN Knowledge Centres are an integral part of CLARIN ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium). Those centres aim to offer open access to language technologies, tools, resources, competencies, and expertise for the scientific, cultural, business, and industrial communities, as well as for all interested individuals. In addition, all CLARIN Knowledge Centres guarantee the data’s reliability, durability, and copyright, making it easily findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable, which promotes innovation and saves researchers valuable time.
Currently, there are 36 officially established and certified CLARIN Knowledge Centres, each focusing on a specific area of linguistics. The teams at these centres consist of highly skilled specialists from diverse fields. Here, interdisciplinarity enhances value by expanding the teams’ competencies and creating avenues for innovative ideas and successful solutions.
The National CLARIN-LT Consortium is involved in two centres: CLARIN-ELEXIS and SAFMORIL.
CLARIN-ELEXIS is a certified lexicographic knowledge centre functioning across multiple European nations, including Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, the Netherlands and Ukraine. A total of 17 institutions participate in the centre’s activities, with the Jožef Stefan Institute in Slovenia operating as the coordinating institution.
The CLARIN-ELEXIS Knowledge Centre provides assistance and expert knowledge in the field of lexicography:
- ● Offers consultations on lexicography (such as lexicographic resources and tools, as well as lexicographic standardisation, among others);
- ● Provides training on various lexicographical topics.
SAFMORIL is a certified CLARIN Knowledge Centre dedicated to the study of languages with rich morphology. It is an international centre operating in Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Finland. The coordinating institution is the University of Helsinki in Finland.
The SAFMORIL Knowledge Centre specialises in computational morphology and natural language processing and offers distance learning courses on related topics.
CLARIN Knowledge Centres are the space where academic knowledge and innovative solutions are cultivated to stay at the forefront of the rapidly changing world of language technology.
