Events. Summer Corpus Intensive

On 26–29 May 2026 in Paris (France), an intensive summer school “Corpus Methods in Linguistics–Compilation, Annotation, and Quantitative Analysis” will take place.

This intensive, week-long course (30 academic hours) will consist of the following structure:

  • ● Morning sessions will focus on data collection, extraction, and organisation, along with DIY corpus building.
  • ● Afternoon sessions will concentrate on the statistical analysis of the data generated in the morning sessions.
  • ● Several half-day sessions will address automatic annotation and manual annotation methods.

Participants in the summer school will acquire the following skills:

  • ● How to formulate advanced search queries in a concordancer (such as TextSTAT, AntConc);
  • ● How to compile a text corpus with BootCaT;
  • ● How to automatically annotate a text corpus in TreeTagger;
  • ● How to measure keyword specificity and collocation strength using AntConc;
  • ● How to perform statistical analyses of categorical variables in R.

This program is primarily designed for researchers and upper-level students (Master’s or PhD). The tuition fee is set at 90€. It is important to note that this is an international summer school, and activities will involve working with corpora in English, French, and potentially other languages. While knowledge of French is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
