CLARIN ERIC Code of Conduct

The CLARIN ERIC conference is just around the corner. It will take place from 29 September to 1 October 2026 in Brighton (United Kingdom) and online. If you haven’t registered yet, please click here to do so and actively engage in the upcoming event.

The annual CLARIN ERIC conference is the most important event organised by the CLARIN infrastructure, bringing together an interdisciplinary audience of experts from the humanities, social sciences, and technological sciences, as well as those interested in language research and advanced language technologies.

All conference participants are invited to familiarise themselves with the CLARIN ERIC Code of Conduct.

The organisers of the CLARIN conference aim to ensure an environment open to dialogue and community, where everyone can feel welcome, respected, and safe. All participants in the event are equally important regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, ethnic origin, race, nationality, age, religion, or other characteristics of personal identity protected by law. Meaningful dialogue begins with mutual respect. CLARIN encourage everyone to communicate openly, thoughtfully, and in good faith, while respecting others’ experiences, perspectives, and boundaries.

All conference participants – whether attending in person or joining remotely – must adhere to the CLARIN Code of Conduct.

Here are some key highlights from the CLARIN Code of Conduct:

• ● Communicate respectfully and responsibly;
• ● Choose your words carefully;
• ● Respect cultural diversity;
• ● Strive to comprehend diverse perspectives;
• ● Adhere to the principle of good faith when engaging with others;
• ● Communicate clearly and employ language that is understandable and inclusive to everyone;
• ● Listen patiently and with understanding; keep in mind that not all participants may be able to speak the language of communication fluently;
• ● Resolve disagreements calmly and constructively;
• ● Avoid making assumptions about other people’s identity, personal experiences or circumstances, including gender identity, sexual orientation, financial situation, background and health status;
• ● Aggressive behaviour, inappropriate behaviour, harassment, and violence in any form will not be tolerated;
• ● Any unwelcome conduct or attention of a sexual nature is unacceptable.
• ● Respect the privacy of all conference participants. Photography, filming, or recording without prior consent is not permitted.
• ● Presentations, discussions, and other conference activities should not be disrupted or interrupted.
