Events. Summer school in Riga

On 3–7 August 2026, the 8th Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities (BSSDH 2026) Cultural Data Analytics and Meaning, will be held in Riga (Latvia). This summer school will be dedicated to the analysis of structured cultural data, data modelling, and the production of significant outcomes for humanities research. Special attention will be given to museum and library metadata – an important form of structured data that is widely used in cultural heritage research.

BSSDH 2026 lectures will explore questions of meaning-making and the interpretation of cultural and humanities data, while the workshops will focus on the technical aspects of data preparation, cleaning, modelling, and analysis.

The workshops will include the following topics:

  • ● Data cleaning with OpenRefine;
  • ● Working with Orange Data Mining, an accessible environment for understanding data-processing workflows;
  • ● Using large language models via API for the analysis of humanities data;
  • ● Network analysis with Gephi;
  • ● Data visualisation with Flourish (including network visualisation).

The summer school is designed for humanities researchers and students interested in digital methods, with beginner to intermediate skills in digital humanities. No prior experience is required.

Register for the event here (registration is open until 30 June or until all places are filled).
